Kratom Forms, Compared
Kratom comes in several formats, and they are not interchangeable. Here’s what separates powder, capsules, extracts and shots.
Powder
Ground kratom leaf — the original, most flexible and usually most economical format. It is bitter, so people mix it into liquid ("toss and wash" or into juice). Powder is the baseline everything else is measured against, sorted by vein color.
Capsules
The same powder, pre-measured into capsules. Upsides: no taste, no mess, easy to track how much you have taken. Downsides: costs a bit more, and it takes several capsules to equal a spoon of powder, so it is slower to work through. Good for convenience and consistency.
Extracts
Concentrated kratom — the active compounds pulled into a much stronger form (powder or liquid). Extracts are far more potent by volume than plain leaf, so a little goes a long way and they are easy to overdo. They are best for experienced users, and you should never dose an extract the way you’d dose powder. See dosage.
Shots
Ready-to-drink liquid kratom, usually extract-based. The most convenient, grab-and-go format — popular with travelers — but strength varies a lot brand to brand, so the label is everything. Start with less than a full bottle if you are unsure.
Quick comparison
| Form | Strength | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Powder | Baseline | Value, flexibility |
| Capsules | Baseline (pre-measured) | Convenience, no taste |
| Extract | Much stronger | Experienced users |
| Shots | Varies (often extract) | Grab-and-go |
Which should you pick?
New to kratom? Start with powder or capsules and go slow — see kratom for beginners. Save extracts and strong shots for once you know how you respond. We carry the range at both stores — see the kratom page.
