Vaping in Orlando: A Guide for UK Visitors

Disposables have been off the shelves at home since June 2025. They are completely legal here — along with a few differences that catch British visitors out. Here is what to know before you go looking.

The Big One: Disposables Are Legal Here

Since 1 June 2025 it has been illegal for any UK business to sell, offer to sell, or hold for sale a single-use vape — in shops and online, nicotine or not, across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Everything legally sold in Britain now has to be rechargeable and refillable with a replaceable coil.

That law is British and stops at the British border. In Florida, disposables are sold openly and legally. More than that, the American market went in the opposite direction: while the UK was banning them, US manufacturers pushed capacity up to 25,000 and 50,000-puff devices with screens, adjustable power modes and rechargeable batteries — formats that were never on sale in the UK at all.

If the last disposable you owned was a 600-puff bar, the wall in an American smoke shop will look unfamiliar. The current flagships run 25,000 to 50,000 puffs, show battery and e-liquid level on a screen, and recharge over USB-C.

You Must Be 21. Not 18.

This is the one that ruins trips, so it is worth saying plainly. Florida’s minimum age for tobacco and vape products is 21. The UK’s is 18.

An 18, 19 or 20 year old who buys legally every week at home will be refused here, in every shop, with no discretion available to staff. It is federal and state law, not shop policy.

Bring photo ID even if you look comfortably older — a passport or a UK photocard driving licence both work. Paper licences and photos of your ID on your phone do not.

Everything Is Two and a Half Times Stronger

UK and EU rules cap nicotine in e-liquid at 2% (20 mg/mL). The United States has no equivalent cap, and the standard strength for disposables here is 5% (50 mg/mL).

So a device that looks identical to the one you buy at home delivers roughly two and a half times the nicotine per puff. If you are used to 20 mg, the first few draws will feel harsh and may make you light-headed. Take smaller puffs, leave longer gaps, and give it a day. If it is too much, ask — lower strengths are available.

Where You Can and Cannot Vape

Theme parks: not inside. Disney and Universal both restrict smoking and vaping to designated areas, and at Disney those are outside the park gates — leaving and re-entering costs you a good chunk of your day.
Hotels and resorts: almost all are non-smoking indoors, and vaping in the room can trigger a cleaning fee that will show up on your card.
Restaurants and indoor public spaces: Florida’s Clean Indoor Air Act applies.

Taking One Home

The UK ban targets businesses selling or supplying single-use vapes. GOV.UK guidance is explicit that it is not illegal to possess or use a disposable you already own. So a device you bought here and carry home is for your personal use — never to pass on or sell.

At the airport: vapes go in your hand luggage only, never the hold, because of the lithium battery. You cannot use or charge one on the plane. Rules on both sides do change, so check GOV.UK before you travel. Our flying with a vape guide covers the Orlando airport side.

Common Questions

Are disposable vapes legal in Florida?

Yes. The UK ban on single-use vapes that took effect on 1 June 2025 is a British law and has no bearing in the United States. Disposables are sold openly in Florida smoke shops, including large-capacity devices rated at 25,000 to 50,000 puffs that were never sold in the UK.

I am 18 and can buy vapes at home. Can I buy one in Orlando?

No. Florida law sets the minimum age for tobacco and vape products at 21, not 18.
