Delta-8 vs Delta-9 vs Delta-10
Three cannabinoids, three numbers, and a lot of confusion on the shelf. Here’s what actually separates them — no chemistry degree required.
If you’ve stood in front of our gummy shelf squinting at “Delta-8,” “Delta-9” and “Delta-10,” you’re not alone — it’s the question we get most. They’re all cousins of THC, they all come from hemp, and they all do slightly different things. Here’s the honest rundown.
The one-line version
- Delta-9 — the classic. The strongest of the three, closest to what most people picture when they think “THC.”
- Delta-8 — milder and mellower. People often describe it as a smoother, less anxious middle ground.
- Delta-10 — the lightest, and usually described as more heady and uplifting than heavy.
Same family, different personalities. Think of it as the difference between an espresso, a coffee and a green tea — all caffeine, very different rides.
Delta-9: the strong one
Delta-9 is the well-known form of THC. The version sold at a Florida smoke shop is hemp-derived — it comes from hemp and stays within the legal 0.3%-by-dry-weight limit, which is how it ends up in gummies and drinks on our shelf rather than behind a dispensary counter. It’s the most potent of the three, so if you’re new, it’s the one to respect most. Start with half a gummy and wait.
Delta-8: the mellow middle
Delta-8 blew up because a lot of people find it does most of what they want with less of the edge — less racing-mind, more even-keel. It’s milder than Delta-9, which makes it a common starting point for people who found regular THC too intense. That’s not a promise (everyone’s different), but it’s the pattern we hear at the counter constantly.
Delta-10: the light, bright one
Delta-10 is the least common of the three and the mildest. It leans heady and energetic rather than couch-locking, so people reach for it earlier in the day or when they want something subtle. If Delta-9 is the deep end, Delta-10 is wading in.
So which should you get?
Depends on what you’re after and how much experience you have:
| You want… | Try |
|---|---|
| The strongest, most classic effect | Delta-9 |
| Something mellow and even | Delta-8 |
| A light, daytime-friendly lift | Delta-10 |
| To ease in as a beginner | Start Delta-8, low dose |
Whatever you pick, the golden rule with edibles is the same: start low, go slow. Gummies take 30–90 minutes to kick in, so it’s easy to take more before the first dose lands — and then regret it. Give it time. We break all of this down further in our THCA vs CBD vs gummies vs mushroom guide, and you can browse the shelf on our CBD & Delta page.
